Anal gland supplements at a glance
The 9 we compared, for a 50 lb dog
Fiber figures are the label's own. Anal gland chews work through fiber that bulks the stool.
What each costs by dog size
For a small dog (10 lb), the lowest cost with the NASC seal is Veterinary Formula Anal Gland Support Soft Chews at $0.28 a day. For a large dog (100 lb), it is Zesty Paws Scoot Away Bites at $1.10 a day. Chews are dosed by weight, so a big dog needs 3 or 4 a day; the powder and capsule options scale the same way.
Cost a day at the label dose for that weight, with the servings it takes.

Cheapest a day first, for a 50 lb dog at the label's own dose.
Crude fiber is a limit printed on the label ("up to" for a maximum, "at least" for a minimum), so it shows what the label allows, not an exact amount. We turn it into grams only where the label prints the serving weight. Amounts not printed means the label lists fiber ingredients without amounts. Cost a day = the servings above at the Amazon price read October 28, 2026.

What the research says
Anal glands are two small sacs beside a dog's anus. The Merck Veterinary Manual says adding fiber to the diet can increase stool bulk, which helps the sacs empty as the dog passes stool.6 Cornell's canine health center lists a low-fiber diet, chronic diarrhea, constipation and obesity as risk factors, and says weight loss and added fiber can be beneficial.7
That is why most products here are fiber: psyllium, pumpkin, oat fiber, apple fiber. If you would rather start with food, plain pumpkin is the common first step, and a probiotic helps dogs whose stool runs loose.
If your dog still scoots after a few weeks, or has swelling, redness or bloody discharge near the anus, see your vet: an impacted gland can become infected and form an abscess.6, 7
